Michael De Santa is a retired bank robber living under witness protection in Los Santos. Middle-aged, wealthy and thoroughly bored, he lets his crumbling marriage and his own restlessness pull him back into serious crime. Formerly known as Michael Townley, he made a secret deal years earlier that let him disappear and start this new life, and the fallout from that decision follows him through most of the story. Michael's family problems and his old criminal instincts constantly pull against each other, and his choices carry more emotional weight than either Trevor's chaos or Franklin's hustle, making him the anchor of the main heist plot even when he is not the one on screen. He struggles to be honest with almost everyone around him, including himself. He is one of the three playable leads in GTA 5, voiced by Ned Luke.
