Where does the GTA 5 player count come from?+
The live number is players in-game on Steam right now, from Steam's public API - the Enhanced (appid 3240220) and Legacy (271590) editions, shown separately and combined. It is PC only. PlayStation and Xbox players are not included, because Sony and Microsoft do not publish live per-game player counts for any game.
How is the estimated all-platform total worked out?+
It takes the live Steam PC count and divides it by Steam's assumed share of all players across every platform (25-40% by default, editable in admin). That band is grounded in reporting that PC is roughly 40% of GTA 5's active players, adjusted down because Steam is only part of PC (Epic and the Rockstar launcher also count). It is a model, not a measurement - no console API publishes live counts - so it always carries the Estimated label.
What are the two GTA 5 editions?+
Legacy is the original build; Enhanced is the 2025 next-gen PC release with graphics and feature upgrades. Both are live on Steam with their own player counts, so we show each separately and add them for the combined total.
How often do the numbers and charts update?+
Readings are recorded every few minutes. The live numbers on this page refresh on their own about every 45 seconds, and the charts redraw as new readings come in. Use the 24H / 7D / 30D / ALL tabs to change the timeframe, and hover the line to read the exact count at any point.
