The American Alligator is Alligator mississippiensis, the dominant reptile of the southeastern United States and a defining animal of Florida's swamps and marshes. Its broad, rounded snout is the easiest way to tell it apart from a narrower-snouted crocodile. Alligators are ambush hunters that lie still in murky water before striking, and the species is a genuine conservation success story after nearly disappearing decades ago through hunting. Leonida's Everglades-inspired backcountry is built around exactly this kind of freshwater channel and marsh, the setting an alligator needs to hunt effectively. This alligator appears in the official GTA 6 trailers, confirming its place in the game. Rockstar has not shown how dangerous it is to a player who strays off the highway into its territory.
