The Brown Pelican is Pelecanus occidentalis, a coastal seabird known for plunging bill-first into the water from height to scoop up fish in its stretchy throat pouch. That dramatic dive sets it apart from its larger white relative, which feeds at the surface instead. The species nearly disappeared in the mid-1900s because of pesticide poisoning before recovering once DDT was banned, and it is now a common sight again along piers and beaches across Florida. Leonida's coastline gives this bird an obvious place to work, diving near boats, docks and open shoreline. This pelican appears in the official GTA 6 trailers, so its place in the game is settled. Rockstar has not shown whether it reacts to a boat or a player passing underneath.
