Engine, transmission, turbo, and brakes are the basic performance purchases in GTA 5. Spoilers can add real grip on eligible cars, selected suspension changes affect performance, and off-road wheels only help vehicles whose handling flags support the effect. Cosmetic price does not equal speed.

Engine, transmission, and turbo
These are the reliable acceleration upgrades. The underlying handling record contains stock and upgraded drive-force states for tested vehicles. A higher top speed does not automatically follow, because drag, gearing, flags, and special speed systems still constrain the result.

Spoilers can add real grip
Many vehicles carry upgradeBenefits.spoiler: true. On those cars, fitting a qualifying non-stock spoiler applies the game's spoiler benefit. The expensive option is not inherently better than the cheapest qualifying one.
The

Niobe are flagged for spoiler benefits in the current database. That flag is more useful than judging the shape by eye.
Suspension is model-specific
Lower suspension is not a universal lap-time button. The database marks a suspension benefit per vehicle where the source supports one. Even then, a lower stance can make some routes less forgiving over kerbs and bumps.
Do off-road wheels make every car faster?
No. The useful effect is tied to vehicle handling behaviour, not the wheel label alone. Some cars are flagged for an off-road benefit. Others get only the visual change. Use the individual item record instead of applying an old blanket rule to 856 vehicles.
What determines top speed
The handling file includes drive force, drive max flat velocity, drag coefficient, gears, mass, and drivetrain. The final tested top speed can also depend on flags, stance behaviour, boost, HSW, or update-specific mechanics. That is why GTATracker keeps both extracted inputs and controlled tested results.
Best upgrade order for a race car
- Buy the highest engine upgrade you have unlocked.
- Add the best transmission and turbo.
- Upgrade brakes for technical racing.
- Fit a qualifying spoiler if the vehicle has a spoiler benefit.
- Check the vehicle's suspension and off-road flags before spending for performance.
- Test the car on the route you intend to race.
