How to enter cheats on each platform, what they change, and the rules that catch people out.
How do I enter cheats in GTA 5?+
Enter button combinations on a controller, type codes on PC after pressing the tilde key, or dial numbers on the in-game phone. Every cheat page lists all three.
Do cheats disable achievements?+
Yes. Using any cheat blocks achievements and trophies until you reload a save, and you cannot earn gold medals while cheats are active.
Is there a money cheat?+
No. GTA 5 has no money cheat in any version. The fastest legitimate money comes from the stock market missions and heists.
Do cheats work in GTA Online?+
No. Cheats are Story Mode only. Attempting them online does nothing.
How do I enter a cheat on each platform?+
On PlayStation and Xbox, press the button sequence quickly while playing, and a confirmation appears on screen. On PC, press the tilde key to open the console and type the cheat word, or use the phone method. On every platform you can open the in-game cell phone, dial the number listed on the cheat page and the cheat activates when the call connects.
The phone numbers are the easiest method because they spell a word on the keypad and work identically on every platform. Each cheat page lists the number and the controller combos side by side.
Do cheats disable achievements and saving?+
Cheats disable achievements and trophies for as long as that play session continues, and you cannot earn a gold medal on a mission attempt with a cheat active. Reload a save made without cheats and everything is back to normal. Cheats themselves are never saved, so nothing carries over.
There is no money cheat in GTA 5 on any platform. Anything claiming otherwise is not real.
Why does a vehicle spawn cheat sometimes fail?+
Spawned vehicles need clear space in front of you, and a few of them need a mission or activity completed first. The Dodo seaplane only spawns once the related random event has been done, and the Kraken submarine needs the wildlife photography challenge finished. Aircraft spawn cheats work best outdoors with open ground.
Some cheats also have timed effects. Invincibility lasts about five minutes and then needs re-entering, and the weather cheat cycles through settings one call at a time.
Is there a cheat for every version of the game?+
Almost every cheat works on every version of GTA 5. A small number, such as the Kraken and Dodo spawns, only exist in the enhanced editions on newer consoles and PC because those vehicles were added there. The cheat pages state when a cheat is limited to certain versions.
If a combo fails on your platform, try the phone number instead. It is the same cheat and it removes any doubt about the timing of the button presses.
